Founder, Balcony Health
“Everyone told me to “just talk to someone.” Nobody told me how hard it is to find someone who already gets it.”
When I moved abroad, I thought the hard part would be the paperwork. It wasn't. It was the 2 am calls home where I said “all good” and meant none of it, and the quiet guilt of watching my parents get older over video.
When I finally looked for help, I found long directories and kind strangers who didn't quite get it. I spent sessions explaining joint families, festivals I was missing, and why “just set boundaries” wasn't that simple. I left feeling more alone than when I walked in.
Talking to friends, I kept hearing the same story, from students in Boston to parents in Bengaluru worrying about kids an ocean away. So I started Balcony Health: a quiet balcony where you can step out and talk to someone who already understands both of your worlds.
I talk to everyone myself before suggesting anyone, because I know how much it takes to reach out in the first place.
If you’re reading this, I hope it helps. And if you’re not ready yet, that’s okay too.
